TROY — The frustrations grew inside Deondre Douglas.
A stomach bug drained his physical health and his early-season play suffered, leaving the Troy receiver wondering if his junior season would be lost.
But he made a decision that ranks higher than even Saturday’s game-winning touchdown, one that he’ll take with him the rest of his life.
“I’m saved,” Douglas said after the Trojans’ 22-17 win over Akron at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Douglas, who caught a 23-yard touchdown pass with 1:06 remaining, professed his love for Christ and became a Christian a few weeks ago.
Football suddenly wasn’t as important, but his production has vastly improved.
