Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley proclaimed April 19 as DeMarcus Ware Day before he addressed the Alabama State Legislature in Montgomery early in the day. Ware then journeyed to Troy, where Mayor Jason Reeves presented the nine-time NFL Pro Bowl selection a key to the city and where university officials presented him a few different awards.
For Ware, the honors provided special memories – just like his first Super Bowl win in February did.
“I think when you work for something so long like the Super Bowl, it’s a really big accomplishment,” he said. “But when you go home and get the comfort of your hometown … and coming back to your college and getting the leadership award but also meeting old friends and seeing familiar faces, that brings a whole different feeling, a sentimental feeling.
