Cottonwood's Cory Gill to make start for Troy against Alabama

Troy freshman hurler Cory Gill fires a pitch on Feb. 21 against Northern Kentucky. Gill, from Cottonwood, will make the start against the Alabama Crimson Tide Tuesday.

Cottonwood’s Cory Gill (0-0, 1.80 ERA) will take the mound first as the Trojans take on Alabama Tuesday at Riddle-Pace Field in Troy at 6 p.m. Gill allowed only one run in five innings in his first start against Northern Kentucky on Feb. 21, and Troy head coach Mark Smartt likes the former Bear’s composure.

“The first thing that impressed me was he got into trouble right out of the chute -- he gave up a leadoff double and had to go to the stretch -- but he rebounded,” Smartt said.
