TROY – It has taken Troy relief pitcher Cory Gill about eight months to become an overnight sensation.
Gill, the Cottonwood product who this week earned a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week accolade from Collegiate Baseball , has been a shutdown reliever in the last few weeks.
“Almost unhittable,” is the phrase both Trojans head coach Mark Smartt and Troy Friday night starter Andrew Crane used to describe Gill’s recent dominance.
“When it’s getting a little deeper into the game, it gives me confidence to keep going right at people because I know if I get in trouble Gill’s going to come in and get me right back out of it,” said Crane, who has teamed with Gill for shutouts in his last two starts against Texas State and Coastal Carolina.
