TROY, Alabama – Troy sophomore right-hander Cory Gill has been named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, Collegiate Baseball announced Monday. Gill dominated opposing hitters last week as he struck out 12 batters in just six innings of work without allowing a run.
The Cottonwood, Ala., picked up a hold in Troy's victory at No. 5 Auburn last Tuesday and then turned around to record his fifth save of the year in the Trojans' victory at defending national champion Coastal Carolina on Friday.
Gill has struck out four consecutive batters in three straight outings and has struck out 23 batters over his last six appearances and 11.
