TROY, Ala. – The nation's leading tackler since the start of the 2019 season, Carlton Martial is one of eight semifinalists for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is presented annually by the Burlsworth Trust to the nation's top player who began their career as a walk-on.
Martial currently ranks fifth nationally, averaging 10.2 tackles per game, while his 92 overall stops are tied for sixth in the country. In addition, the Mobile, Ala., native is the only player in the country to have at least 90 tackles and nine tackles for loss this season.
Since 2000, Martial is one of just two players at the FBS level to record more than 400 tackles, 45 tackles for loss and five interceptions in their career – he has 407 tackles, 46 tackles for loss and five interceptions.
