TROY, Alabama – Troy senior running back B.J. Smith has been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced this week.
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, sportswriter and official.
Smith, a native of Millbrook, Ala., rushed for 1,186 yards last season which led the Sun Belt over the 12 regular season games and ranked second, by one yard, for the entire season.
