TROY — Troy quarterback Kaleb Barker earned no special favor for his blocking efforts on a reverse last weekend, other than some light scorn from his teammates.
Barker’s less-than-physical block still sprung receiver Kaylon Geiger for a 14-yard gain on a second-quarter scoring drive in Troy’s 49-28 win over Georgia Southern.
“He got in the way, I will say that,” kicker Tyler Sumpter said. “We’ll call it that.”
Troy coaches playfully sprung to Barker’s defense. Seriously, they said, his non-block block is preferable to him getting hurt.
“He’s just supposed to run interference,” head coach Chip Lindsey said.
