AUBURN - There’s no arguing that Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson made up one of the backfield tandems in the nation last year.
Pettway rushed 209 times for 1,224 yards and seven touchdowns. Johnson added 182 carries for 895 yards and 11 scores. Together, they helped Auburn rank sixth nationally with an average of 271.3 rushing yards per game.
But there were times late in the season where the Tigers’ over-reliance on those two backs hurt them. With Pettway dealing with a pulled quad and Johnson still affected by an ankle injury, Auburn rushed for just 127 and 66 yards against rivals Georgia and Alabama, respectively, losing both games.
