Alumni club: Troy’s Brown to face alma mater UMass

TROY — It was just a few weeks after Neal Brown became Troy’s coach before he noticed this week on a future schedule.

The University of Massachusetts’ name stares out from both of Brown’s college diplomas, which are stowed in his office, and it will be what faces him and his Trojans on Saturday.

Brown, a former receiver for the Minutemen, earned his bachelor’s degree from UMass in 2002 and his master’s in business administration in 2005.

“There’s a lot of good memories,” Brown said. “The thing that sticks with me, and I was not mature enough to realize it at the time … was being by myself really for the first time.
