TROY – Ninth-ranked Alabama completed a perfect opening weekend when freshman Montana Fouts pitched a three-hit shutout in the Crimson Tide’s 8-0 victory in six innings over Troy on Sunday.
The Tide’s Fouts and Troy starter Leanna Johnson both had no-hitters through three innings, but Alabama erupted for seven runs in the fourth and knocked out Johnson.
Bailey Hemphill’s RBI double off the fence was the Tide’s first hit and drove in Kaylee Tow, who had walked. A solo homer by Tow in the sixth made it 8-0. The game ended via run-rule when Fouts retired Troy in the bottom of the sixth.
