Who and what links Spurs with Juventus?

We met the reigning Serie A champions as recently as last summer during our pre-season International Champions Cup campaign in Melbourne, Australia, but you have to go all the way back to May, 1960, for our first encounter with the Bianconeri.

One of two post-season friendlies played by Bill Nicholson’s side after a third place finish in the First Division in 1959-60, the other being a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace on May 2, we visited Juve on May 25, 1960, but suffered a 2-0 defeat in front of a crowd recorded as being 40,000-strong. Our team was: Brown, Baker, Henry, Blanchflower, Norman, Marchi, Medwin, White (Harmer), R Smith (Saul), Mackay, Jones.
