Tottenham's Christian Eriksen picks perfect time to step up as Spurs begin life without Harry Kane on a high

Before this crucial victory, a result that carried Tottenham nine points clear of ailing rivals Arsenal, Christian Eriksen had scored only five Premier League goals all season long.

Four of those had arrived in games against Hull and Swansea. In the absence of the injured 24-goal striker Harry Kane, therefore, Tottenham would be within their rights to expect this to be the time their Danish midfielder Eriksen stepped up the plate.

Eriksen has sparkled intermittently this season, but while Dele Alli has struck eighteen goals and Son Heung-Min has scored fourteen, it is clear that the Dane's goalscoring output could be improved.
