Tottenham want an up front payment of £100million if they are to sell Harry Kane this summer.
Manchester United is a possible destination for Kane, but Tottenham are eager not to sell to a domestic rival.
As reported by The Times, Tottenham hope that by not accepting instalments it will deter United from pursuing a move for the striker.
Kane has just over a year remaining on his current contract at Tottenham.
Tottenham are aware that United do not want to be involved in lengthy negotiations as it could delay their plans to improve their attack.
