Arsenal legend Tony Adams has disclosed the club rejected the chance to sign Eric Dier for just £5 million before he eventually joined rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, Spurs' chances of signing Schalke's Max Meyer are reportedly looking up.
Speaking to The Times (h/t Metro), Adams revealed he recommended Dier—who was still at Sporting Lisbon—to the Gunners in 2012, but Arsenal "felt he was too slow for the Premier League":
"I recommended Eric Dier to Arsenal. I did the England Under-19s with Blakey [Noel Blake] in 2012, and phoned [Arsenal scout] Steve Rowley and said, 'Dier's head and shoulders above any English player in this camp.
