Toby Alderweireld has revealed feeling wanted by Jose Mourinho helped inspire him to sign a new contract at Tottenham.
The Belgian defender had looked certain to leave Spurs this summer with his contract due to expire but the 30-year-old penned a £150,000-a-week deal just a month after Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino as manager.
Mourinho had wanted to sign Alderweireld when he was Manchester United manager and the Spurs defender admitted that played a part in his decision.
‘That’s a thing that helped me stay as well,’ said Alderweireld.
