After a cagey and sometimes lethargic first half in which Dele Alli wasted a glorious chance to put Tottenham ahead, the visitors looked much sharper and more focused in the second 45 minutes.
Mauricio Pochettino's men went ahead when Burnley failed to clear a Christian Eriksen corner and Eric Dier shot home.
