Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said his side "showed a lack of energy" as they settled for a 1-1 draw at Everton to open the Premier League season on Saturday.
Erik Lamela's header cancelled out Ross Barkley's early opener and Tottenham had a chance to win, but Everton keeper Maarten Stekelenburg denied Vincent Janssen and Lamela late on.
Pochettino said he was not satisfied with the point away from home.
"I think the team was ready, and we showed a lack of energy," the manager said.
"I never make an excuse beforehand. And after the game, when you have played badly, you have played badly, and you need to be honest -- I try to be honest.
