The League Cup goalscorers' graveyard: From Bebe to Jordan Rossitter, Scott Sinclair and Sanchez Watt, how early success in competition does not often turn into a long career at a top-six club

As footballing fairytales go, Eddie Nketiah’s home debut for Arsenal was certainly deserving of the cliché.

Making his first appearance at the Emirates Stadium, the 18-year-old striker scored inside 15 seconds and then added an extra-time match-winner against Norwich in the Carabao Cup round of 16 in October.

Unfortunately for Nketiah, his club have a history of unearthing new heroes in this competition, only to bin them off before a mark has been made in the Premier League. But Arsenal are not alone.

The other members of England’s top-six clubs – Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool – have also seen a multitude of players rise through success in the League Cup before falling away to become nothing more than a footnote in the club’s history.
