Former Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has joined Sunderland on a one-year deal, the Black Cats have confirmed.
The 34-year-old South African, who played under manager David Moyes at Goodison Park, has signed after a successful trial on Wearside.
He is likely to go straight into the squad for Sunday's Premier League derby clash with Middlesbrough.
