Southampton have put a £35m price tag on captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Hojbjerg has attracted interest from Tottenham and Everton and Southampton chief executive Martin Semmens admits they will not stand in his way if a club meets his valuation.
The Danish midfielder, 24, has just a year left on his contract at St Mary's but Southampton will demand a big fee to reflect his status as skipper along with his ability and their reluctance to let him leave.
That represents a setback for Spurs in particular who will be operating with a limited budget this summer and are in the market for cheaper deals and loans due to the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis.
