Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly asked the board a few months ago to sign a player like Sofyan Amrabat in January.
The Reds are keen to bolster their midfield options with James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita all out of contract in the summer and Jordan Henderson and Thiago both in their 30s.
And Klopp has stepped up his interest in the Morocco star.
He reportedly met with the representatives of the Fiorentina midfielder and another meeting is planned after the World Cup.
On Thursday Corriere dello Sport claimed that Klopp has ‘long since made a request to the board to be able to have a player just like Amrabat in January’.
