'If you put Pochettino in charge, trust me they will pay more attention': Dimitar Berbatov says Newcastle could sign Gareth Bale if they appoint a big name manager

Appointing Mauricio Pochettino as manager would give Newcastle a chance of signing Gareth Bale, according to Dimitar Berbatov.

The Magpies are close to finalising a £300million takeover by a Saudi Arabian consortium which is backed by the country's public investment fund.

And former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Berbatov believes they would be able to tempt Real Madrid forward Bale to St James' if they were to appoint a big name manager like Pochettino.

'If the rumours are true, and Newcastle are looking at appointing Mauricio Pochettino, it would be a great move for the team,' he told Betfair.
