'I actually feel sorry for Nuno': Rio Ferdinand insists sacked Spurs boss was 'on to a hiding' before he'd even started with star man Harry Kane wanting to leave

Rio Ferdinand believes Nuno Espirito Santo never stood a chance to succeed at Tottenham after Harry Kane made clear he wanted to leave the club in the summer.

The Portuguese was sacked on Monday morning, less than 48 hours after Spurs were lost 3-0 at home to Manchester United and slipped to eighth in the Premier League.

Nuno was loudly booed by the fans at half-time and full-time after his side failed to register a shot on target and was relieved of his duties just four months into his two-year contract.
