Gareth Southgate named the striker as his skipper for the tournament during a meeting with the squad at St. George’s Park on Monday night.
The 24-year-old will now lead his nation into their 15th World Cup and in doing so, becomes the first Spur to captain the Three Lions at the finals. He is one of five Spurs players in the squad alongside Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier.
Manager Southgate said: “Harry has some outstanding personal qualities. He is a meticulous professional and one of the most important things for a captain is that they set the standard every day.
