Harry Kane stretchered off with injured ankle in Spurs' defeat of Sunderland

LONDON -- Harry Kane scored the winner but was stretchered off with an ankle injury as Tottenham beat 10-man Sunderland 1-0 on Sunday.

Kane finished from close range just before the hour for his second goal in as many league matches, but the 22-year-old was removed from the game three minutes from time after suffering the injury.

Spurs plan to assess Kane this week but the news is a worry for manager Mauricio Pochettino, who faces a crucial run of matches domestically and in Europe.

Kane was always unlikely to start Wednesday's EFL Cup match against Gillingham but Spurs travel to Middlesbrough in the Premier League next weekend, before a vital Champions League game in Russia against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday of week.
