Christian Eriksen let Vincent Janssen take Tottenham's penalty against Gillingham

Christian Eriksen has admitted he let Vincent Janssen take Tottenham’s penalty against Gillingham because he ‘felt for him’ after his tough start in British football.

Janssen failed to score in his first six Spurs games after his £17m move from AZ Alkmaar, but converted from the spot in the 5-0 win on Wednesday after Eriksen gave up the chance to complete his hat-trick.

Eriksen said: ‘I did think about taking it but I think I saw on Vincent's face and his body language that he really wanted it and you can feel for a striker. And it is not as important for me with two or three goals.
