Persistent reports identify Tom Sterner and Bill Bayno as having been relieved of their duties. While I’ve no confirmation of the firings from the Toronto Raptors themselves (which is all too typical of their blase relationship towards the press and fandom), I’m taking it as read.
Sterner was the chatty, upbeat assistant who was frequently interviewed at halftime by Leo Rautins or other TV “personalities”. His speciality was the team’s defense. Bayno maintained a much lower profile, while working with the team’s big men. He is particularly tied to the development, or lack thereof, of Jonas Valanciunas.
Yours Truly has attended several coaches’ seminars in which Sterner and Bayno, among others, enjoyed prominent roles.
