There’s nothing random about the Raptors’ choice for an assistant coach, even if his teams play that way

The Raptors may not know exactly what they’re going to do on offence most of the time this season but they hope to do it well, as counterintuitive as that might sound.

New assistant coach Chris Finch, a long-time associate and rival of Toronto head coach Nick Nurse, thinks a free-flowing, figure-it-out-as-you-go approach is the most effective method in this NBA era. And that is sure to music to the ears of players who live for the ability to adjust on the go more than just about anything.

“I think the game now is so fast and so fluid, and I’ve been fortunate enough to always kind of want to play that way,” Finch said in a video conference call with reporters Friday.
