There will be no buses adorned with social justice messaging, no slogans on the back of uniforms, and the courts will not be emblazoned with Black Lives Matter when the NBA resumes play later this month.
The Raptors will not be able to fight their fights across Canada in person because they operate, for now, about 2,100 kilometres away in Florida, but team president Masai Ujiri vows the organization is redoubling its efforts to create a better, more equitable, more peaceful world.
“The buses played their role, right, the jerseys played their role, now it’s actually doing these things and seeing them happen and we have to be accountable,” Ujiri said in a wide-ranging half-hour video conference with reporters Saturday.
