The Masai-Ujiri-to-New-York talk, real or not, is what happens when you have the best-run organization in basketball

One problem the Toronto Raptors have right now is they’re too good. It doesn’t sound like a problem, given most of the franchise’s existence. Being too good, all things considered, is a fine problem to have.

But it’s a problem when it comes to the trade deadline, and it’s a problem when it comes to the New York Knicks and team president Masai Ujiri. And in some ways, it was predictable.

First, the trade deadline. Right now Toronto is on pace for 59 wins, one more than last season with Kawhi Leonard. The Raptors sit second in the East despite gratuitous injuries, and if they don’t make a significant move at the deadline it’s not because they aren’t going to try to win a second straight championship.
