Scottie Barnes or Jalen Suggs? Raptors fans over the moon right now with Ujiri’s pick after initial disbelief. Relax, it’s just five NBA games

Of course Scottie Barnes-Jalen Suggs is a thing because people love to talk about things, real or imagined.

It was a thing on NBA draft night, it’s a thing leading up to Friday’s Raptors-Orlando Magic and it’s likely to be a thing after the game.

A thing, sure. To many, but not to Barnes.

“Social media’s going to do its thing regardless of what happens,” Barnes said Thursday.

“I don’t think it matters to either of us. We’re both happy for each other. We wish each other the best of luck.”

The genesis, of course, was the lead up to the July NBA draft, when Barnes and Suggs were the consensus next two picks after Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green and Evan Mobley, a sure-fire talking point for draft-obsessed observers and chroniclers of the game who are often dead certain that one is a better pick than the other.
