Raptors waive Anthony Bennett, sign Jason Thompson

The Toronto Raptors are adding some roster depth for the final six weeks of the NBA regular season at the expense of homegrown project Anthony Bennett.

The Raptors plan to waive Bennett on Monday to open a roster spot and sign forward Jason Thompson. Yahoo.com’s The Vertical first reported the move.

By signing the 6-11 Thompson before Tuesday, he will be playoff eligible for Toronto. He adds front-court depth behind power forwards Luis Scola and Patrick Patterson and centres Jonas Valanciunas and Bismack Biyombo.

The 29-year-old Thompson appeared in 28 games with Golden State this season and spent seven seasons in Sacramento.
