Second-year law student Abby Carpenter had always wanted to work in an environment that contributes to meaningful social change in her home community at Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.
But financial constraints stood in her way.
That changed this past summer, thanks in large part to a donation from Toronto Raptors all-star forward Pascal Siakam to the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson).
A total of 12 students at the university benefited from Siakam’s donation (the amount of which wasn’t disclosed). They were able to gain meaningful paid job experience with frontline organizations working with low-income individuals and families facing barriers to legal services.
