The Raptors weren’t exactly sure what they were getting when they signed DeAndre’ Bembry about a month before the season began.
He was the kind of versatile jack-of-all-trades player that coach Nick Nurse likes and good teams need. He could handle the ball, could defend a couple of positions, had been around long enough to know how the NBA works and how he could fit into the first winning team he’d ever played for.
Now as the Raptors try to salvage something from this season, as they chase the longshot chance they can once again get to the post-season and give Bembry his first shot at competing in the playoffs, they are finding out just how important a multi-faceted player can be.
