Raptors’ Nick Nurse named NBA coach of the year

Nick Nurse is the NBA’s coach of the year for 2019-20 by an overwhelming margin.

Nurse got 90 of 100 first-place votes in balloting among media members who covered the league regularly.

Mike Budenholzer of Milwaukee got five votes, Billy Donovan of the Oklahoma City Thunder got four and Indiana’s Nate McMillan got one.

Nurse led the Raptors to the 2017-18 NBA championship in his first year as an NBA head coach and led them to a 53-19 record in a pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season.

The Raptors currently lead their first round playoff series with the Brooklyn Nets 3-0 and can close it out Sunday evening.
