Chauncey Billups knows because he’s been around the NBA for almost three decades and has played with, and against, some of the greatest point guards the game has ever seen.
He’s been an NBA champion and NBA Finals MVP, as well as an all-star and all-NBA selection multiple times. His pedigree and depth of knowledge cannot be understated. So when the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers spoke Sunday about Raptor Fred VanVleet, he wasn’t just blowing smoke.
“He’s one of the guys in the league that, he can have a game where he has eight points and six assists and he actually controlled the entire game,” Billups said of VanVleet before the Raptors beat Portland 117-105 at Scotiabank Arena on Sunday.
