The most prevalent reaction to Steve Nash’s dismissal as the head coach of the Nets this week was something along the lines of “good for him, glad he got paroled.”
That’s understandable and getting away from the cesspool/tire fire that the franchise is right now had to be freeing to the third-year coach.
But there’s another side, a personal side, which was interesting.
According to someone with direct knowledge of Nash’s immediate reaction, the Hall of Famer was in part “heartbroken” by the move.
That makes sense, too.
No one — especially someone as competitive as Nash is — wants to be tainted by failure and while he had to know it was an impossible situation to get through in Brooklyn, he also has to be stung by being let go.
