Jeff Dowtin Jr. is undeniably a player with NBA skills who has done all that’s been asked of him, and has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches for how he’s handled himself and his assignments this entire season. You cannot find anyone connected with the Raptors who has anything negative to say about the young man. He is, as they say, a good dude.
That said, the hand-wringing that’s gone on this week about Dowtin’s immediate future with the Raptors — it could be as little as spot duty in one regular-season game and watching Fred VanVleet play 44 minutes of some post-season dates — seems a bit much.
