Maybe it is the music.
You sit in Nick Nurse’s office at the Raptors’ practice facility and look around and maybe it all makes sense.
You see the pictures and the paintings of Thelonious Monk and B.B. King and Muddy Waters. The conversations veer off into saxophones and good, smoky, out-of-the-way joints in Chicago and New Orleans and Memphis, and maybe a major character attribute comes to the fore.
Maybe that’s where the improvisational nature of Nurse’s coaching comes from, where the creativity is born, where his smooth handling of difficult situations has its genesis.
