David Speedie was just 11 in 1994 when he was calling to vote on what Toronto’s soon-to-be NBA team should be named.
The Toronto native went with Towers, but today, with a Drake-inspired OVO black baseball cap sitting backwards on his head, “Raptors” stitched on its front in gold, he’s happy with how it turned out.
As a fan, he’s been through a lot with his team. Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady lifted him to great highs then equally painful lows with their respective departures. He’s seen his team surge back to temporary relevance with Chris Bosh, watched Andrea Bargnani go first overall then not pan out and saw the tumultuous playoff drought that followed.
