The Raptors have established their own timeline for roster moves, effectively pushing the NBA trade deadline from Thursday until some time in the summer.
It may open new vistas for trades and signings and moves of significance, or it may mean that an opportunity was lost when the Raptors did very little to improve a roster that right now is life and death to make the play-in tournament that leads to the playoffs.
Their lone move — reacquiring centre Jakob Poeltl from San Antonio for Khem Birch, a top-six protected first-round draft choice in 2024 and second-round picks in 2023 and 2025 — addressed one need but fell far, far short of the anticipated major moves that never materialized.
