Players retiring and joining the coaching ranks is nothing new, but many seem to be making the leap from the court to the head coach’s office faster than ever in today’s NBA.
Here’s a look at a few former NBAers who have gone from tracksuits to three-piece suits on the sidelines:
Derek Fisher
Playing career: Fisher spent 18 seasons in the NBA, 13 of them in two different stints with the L.A. Lakers that saw him win five NBA championships.
Coaching career: After he played his 1,287th game in the 2013-2014 season, finishing up his career with Oklahoma City, Fisher retired and was promptly hired by New York Knicks president Phil Jackson — another former player turned coach, who coached Fisher in L.
