It’s one of the strange truths of mega-money professional sports: Championship rings, as hard as they are to win, are basically impossible to wear. In a world where every winning team wants their bauble to be the biggest and most bejewelled, they’re better kept under guard in gated compounds than donned on the way to the office.

So it said something about the specialness of Sunday night’s occasion at Scotiabank Arena that Kyle Lowry, in his long-awaited return to Toronto as a member of the Miami Heat, wore his championship ring as the centrepiece of his red-carpet outfit.
