The Toronto Raptors planned to waive former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett on Monday, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical, who noted the team will sign Jason Thompson for the rest of the season. Michael Grange of Sportsnet confirmed the report and Bennett's release.
The 22-year-old was taken with the first overall pick in the 2013 draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers and then dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Anthony Wiggins trade before signing with the Raptors last offseason.
