The Toronto Raptors gave the Cleveland Cavaliers a scare, but it's clear they need to find an upgrade or two. The Raptors have two notable free agents they want to retain, but are also looking at other team's players that could provide a boost. Here are all the latest Raptors rumors and news you need to know.
Toronto Interested In Jamal Crawford?
The Raptors could spend some of their limited cap space on Jamal Crawford, reports the OC Register. Crawford is the reigning sixth man of the year and would provide some much needed scoring help in the backcourt. The Raptors leaned heavily on Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan last year. Crawford will have plenty of interest, so the Raptors might not actually be able to land him.
Can Raptors Keep Biyombo?
The Raptors top priority is keeping DeRozan, who has shown no interest in leaving Toronto. The second priority is keeping pending free agent Bismack Biyombo. He's set to get a major pay raise and the Raptors might not be able to afford him. However, Biyombo is interested in staying.
"The good news, for DeRozan and the Raptors, is that Biyombo wants to come back," reports Sam Amick of the USA Today. "According to a person with knowledge of his situation, he will be patient as Toronto works things out with DeRozan as its top priority. Biyombo will have no shortage of suitors should the Raptors blink long enough to lose DeRozan, but there will be no immediate rush to seize the speediest deal. Should DeRozan be willing to shave some off the top of his salary as a way to help Biyombo stay on board, as it seems he possibly will, then there is a very real interest on Biyombo’s part of making it all work."
It's still seems unlikely the Raptors will be able to afford Biyombo, unless they elect to clear some more cap space by trading Terrance Ross. Still, the Raptors will try.
