After another disappointing performance in the NBA Playoffs, the Toronto Raptors have fired head coach Dwane Casey. Casey led the Raptors to the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference and the best record in franchise history, but was no match for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who swept them out of the playoffs for the second consecutive season. It will be difficult for the Raptors to find a head coach that is better than Casey, who changed his entire offensive system to better acclimate to the modern game this past season. The change saw massive results with the Raptors ranking in the top 5 in both points per game and offensive ratings.

The Raptors could look to replace him with multiple free agent coaches such as former Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer or former Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy. The Raptors could look inside their organization and elevate Raptors G-League coach Jerry Stackhouse, who led Raptors 905 to the G-League Finals. Elsewhere, they could look at Celtics assistant coach Jay Larranaga, who has received interest for head coaching jobs from across the NBA. Lastly, Mark Jackson could leave the broadcast booth and make his return to the sidelines, but whether his time away from the court will hurt his team’s chances remains to be seen.
Here are the top 5 candidates to replace Dwane Casey:
- Mike Budenholzer
- Jerry Stackhouse
- Stan Van Gundy
- Mark Jackson
- Jay Larranaga
