No matter how closely you follow Canadian university hockey (U Sports), the return of the University of New Brunswick Varsity women’s hockey team to the ice has to make story of the week.
The program was shut down a decade ago, downgraded to a club program ostensibly due to budgetary considerations, which kicked off a hard-fought legal battle, spearheaded by former player Sylvia Bryson. The decision came down in favour of the women’s team over a year ago and they’ve been preparing for this past weekend ever since.
