Women’s Hockey Wednesday: Games that count!

The biggest women’s hockey news of the week was undeniably the Champions Cup game between the NWHL champion Metropolitan Riveters and the SDHL champion Luleå HF/MSSK. Unfortunately, neither of us is local to New Jersey and neither of us watched the stream (in part because streaming was announced very late). It’s clear from the articles above and other posts on social media that the players involved felt the game’s importance, no matter what organizational hitches happened between conception and puck drop. So we can only congratulate Luleå, and in particular MVP Michelle Karvinen, and hope that whatever form it takes in the future, the next Champions Cup is handled with as much understanding of its importance by the organizers as it was by the players.
