Most of July 1st was relatively quiet for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Aside from a couple of depth signings including Jason Spezza and announcing other smaller signings made the day before, the day was quiet.
But then they dropped a bomb around 6pm that night. The Maple Leafs traded longtime player Nazem Kadri and defenseman Calle Rosen to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Tyson Barrie and forward Alexander Kerfoot. It obviously wasn’t as big as signing John Tavares the year before, but it was definitely significant.
The Maple Leafs’ top nine is more or less set with really only the question of who is the third left winger on the depth chart yet to be answered.
